About the Founder and CEO

TechIP CEO Dean Ellison

Dean Ellinson (B.Ec, LLB, LLM) is a senior lawyer with expertise in intellectual property, information technology law, related contracts as well as in insurance law, consultancy and product supply contracts.

Dean is one of Australia’s leading initiators and developers of outstanding seminars and webinars related to the law.

Prior to establishing TECH IP Professional Development, Dean held the following career positions (in order of most recent) over a 20 year period: 

  • General Counsel, Monash Commercial
  • Special Counsel, Blake Dawson Waldron
  • Consultant, Clayton Utz
  • General Counsel, GE Capital Information Technology Solutions
  • Partner, Dunhill Madden Butler (which has since merged with Deacons)

Dean’s previous appointments have included:

  • Chairperson, Law Institute of Victoriaís Intellectual Property and Information Technology Committee 
  • Representative of the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association on the Council of the Law Institute of Victoria 

Dean has had articles on the law published in the Law Institute Journal, Copyright Reporter, Australian Business Law Review, European Intellectual Property Review, University of New South Wales Law Journal, and Melbourne University Law Review. His article in the University of New South Wales Law Journal has been referred to in judgments in two Federal Court copyright law related cases. His article in the Melbourne University Law Review is a leading article internationally on an aspect of moral rights which is part of copyright law. 

In addition to a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics, Dean holds a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property.
